Cortinarius violaceus subsp. harcynicus
(Pers.) Brandrud

Cortinarius violaceus is one of the most beautiful European mushrooms, with its deep violet colour and strongly velutinous cap cuticle. These characteristics, together with an unmistakable smell of cedar wood, make this species very easily recognizable. Subspecies harcynicus is associated with conifers and is distinguished from the type subspecies due to the slightly different shape of the spores. (m.f.)
