Boletus rhodoxanthus
Krombh.

It is one of the most beautiful boletes, thanks to the contrast between the colour of the cap, white with a pink margin, and the intense blood red pores. The stipe is usually cylindric or slightly swollen at the base, but not obese like in B. satanas; the surface presents a distinct blood red reticulum on an intense chrome yellow background. When cut, only the flesh of the cap turns quickly blue, while in the stipe it doesn't change colour. The smell is agreeable, fruity. It grows in warm broad-leaved forests, on neutral or slightly acidic soil (under Quercus, Fagus, Castanea). (g.s.)
