The collections of the Tropical Biodiversity Section contain approximately 5 thousands specimens of preserved animals (almost exclusively Amphibians and Reptiles) and preserved tissues for molecular analysis. A bioacustic library of amphibians call recorded in the wild is also present and contains call of most of the forest species of Tanzania Rwanda and Ethiopia.

The Phototrapping photo library contains over 5,000 prints and related films and over 10,000 digital images, growing at the rate of about 10,000 per year as part of the TEAM project as described in the Monitoring Biodiversity page. They are accessible to scientists who can either visit the museum in person or receive specimens or other material on loan.

On-line consultation of the specimens collection, bioacustic library and phototrapping images library will be available in the coming future. An online atlas on Tanzania herpetofauna is also available
(Tanzaniaherps).
